My mother had saved them for me, categorized sequentially by the date they were received, with her handwritten notes scrawled on them - flight numbers, names of people I met along the way, any mention of obscure places I may have visited, and occasionally, a list of ingredients for a recipe.

His head was huge, way bigger than my flimsy carbon-fiber paddle, which may have made a nice serving platter, or better yet, a toothpick. I got a close up view of his broad head enveloped by a bumpy jowl, jagged teeth revealing themselves from beneath an awkward looking grimace.
Where in the world is Vanuatu?
When I got the invitation to sail from Vanuatu to Australia, of course I said yes. It was only after accepting that I went for a spin on Google Earth to figure out where in the world I was heading. After a dizzying approach across the Pacific, I found the scattering of islands called the Republic of Vanuatu.
